Pronounced as iPhone ten, iPhone X is the best smartphone ever Apple has made. With Apple’s aesthetics in play, this smartphone has the best design compared to other Apple smartphones. As Apple defined it, iPhone X is the future of smartphones, and it has set the technology path for the next decade. Below are its best features and an overall overview.
iPhone X has no Touch ID. Instead, Apple incorporated its new facial recognition tech on this smartphone; the Face ID. The Face ID will be used for purposes such as unlocking the phone, authentication and verifying ID on purchases and many things the Touch ID used to do. Except, it does them by using your facial features. During the Apple Event, Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said that the Face ID is so secure that the chance of a random person in the population could unlock your iPhone X and unlock it with their face is one in a million.
The face ID utilizes the front True Depth Camera, infrared, a flood illuminator, a dot projector and a couple of sensors. All these are used to analyze more than 30,000 invisible dots on your face to create a precise mathematical model and depth map of your unique Face ID. Apples Bionic neural engine housed in the bionic chip is used to process all the facial information. The True Depth Camera is also used for Apple’s new feature; Animoji, It’s an animated emoji. The animoji mimics your facial movements and represents it using emoji, hence creating an animoji.
Intuitive Swipe-Based UI
A demo by Apple’s Craig Federighi gave us the first look at the iPhone X and revealed a lot of things. One of them, the iPhone X gestures – swipe based gestures.
The iPhone X UI is a revolutionary step that Apple took. With no home button, swipe gestures are the new way to access certain features on the phone such as notifications, home, and the control center. Swipe gestures are also used to perform other functions. These new software capabilities are enabled by iOS 11.
Apple has simplified and yet sophisticated the art of photography with the dual vertical cameras on the iPhone X. The improved cameras sport a larger and faster sensor, deeper pixels, a new color filter and they’re equipped with OIS. Augmented Reality is also included. The front camera has also enabled the iPhone X to support portrait lighting. This new mode uses True Depth capabilities and facial tech to create studio‑quality lighting effects. Your selfies are going to be literally ‘lit.’
Design, Performance and Wireless Charging
The most captivating thing about the iPhone X is the all glass design. Apple claims that it’s the most durable glass ever in a smartphone. But we know glass is still glass. This design of glass is reinforced with steel and copper.
The brain that runs the iPhone X is Apple’s A11 Bionic chip. This chip houses the neural engine. Apple said it’s the smartest and most powerful chip ever in a smartphone. A11 is capable of doing up to 600 billion operations per second. The CPU has 4 cores which are 70% faster than the A10 predecessor. There’s also a GPU with 3 cores and is up to 30% faster than the one used with the A10 in iPhone 7. For battery efficiency, a performance controller is used.
Lastly, there’s wireless charging. Apple is finally catching up with the rest of the world. No more cables when charging The iPhone X. The smartphone can charge wirelessly with the available third party wireless chargers. Apple said it would introduce its wireless charger; the Air Power mat, which will be available in 2018. The mat will charge all your supported Apple devices at the same time.
